Idrija Miners’ House Is a Space of Inspiration
Under the patronage of Založba Bogataj, the miners’ house on Bazoviška ulica, Idrija, turn into a writers’ residence during the summer months. In what ways can the environment of an Idrija miners’ house inspire a literary work? How is it to create in Idrija?
Mateja Perpar
“English humour is similar to the one in Idrija. It is curt, has the ability to make fun of oneself, but what is most typical – and often happens in these parts – is the giving of nicknames.”
Employed at the Radio Slovenia, Mateja Perpar is a poet, musician, translator, and author of children’s stories and radio plays. She is a graduate of the Idrija grammar school. During the summer, she spent almost a month in the Idrija miners’ house where she was writing a youth novel entitled Above the Horizons which is happening in Idrija! You can buy the book in Založba Bogataj’s web bookstore!
Natalija Šimunovič
“In the miners’ house, tranquility and silence only presented themselves on the surface. Otherwise, it’s a house bursting with stories – if you listen more carefully, if you have a feeling for the language of the past, it is most certainly not tranquil. It can only be an invaluable treasure house of countless stories.”
Natalija Šimunovič is a writer, musician, and music educator. She was a violist at the SNG Opera and Ballet, and currently works at the Jesenice Music School. She has established the Mala gledališka skupina theatre group. She spent almost all of August in Idrija, exploring the local environment and preparing a futuristic novel. The work comes out in 2021!
